NBA owner Leslie Alexander close to purchase of Houston Dynamo

Leslie Alexander, owner of the NBA?s Houston Rockets, is nearing completion his purchase of the Houston Dynamo.

The sale is expected to be completed within the next month, before the Rockets open training camp.

"We don't want it to be a distraction for anybody," Rockets CEO Tad Brown told the Houston Chronicle. "We don't want it to be a distraction for coach (Dominic) Kinnear, any of the players, any of the management.

"It's important for Mr. Alexander for the people to stay focused on winning, and we're going to try to take care of this behind the scenes."

Alexander is negotiating to purchase both the Dynamo and the club?s 30-year lease on the new BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Dynamo sale is important because it would divest the Anschutz Entertainment Group of its second MLS club. The group also owns the L.A. Galaxy. Once the Dynamo sale is completed, the Hunt family would be the only original MLS investor to retain ownership of two clubs (Dallas and Columbus).

The Dynamo, with seven games remaining in the regular season, are 11-7-9 and tied with Columbus for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. However, the two clubs are only one point ahead of sixth-place D.C. United and three ahead of Montreal.
